Texas teen nearly succeeds in dosing a bunch of cops

Unfortunately, he got busted, which is of course how we know about this.

18yo Christian Phillips of Watauga, TX had a list of 25 Ft. Worth-area police departments and several baskets of homemade cookies and candies made up to look like presents from MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The Lake Worth PD wasn't so naive as to eat them (they toss most unsolicitied food gifts), and having been tipped off by another PD, they tested them for drugs and got a postive result for LSD.

On his list of 25 police departments, 12 had been crossed off. Police in another department said that some of the cookies smelled like, and tested positive for, marijuana as well.

He might have been partially successful after all:

No injuries have been reported, authorities said, but Fort Worth police have confirmed that at least three officers ate cookies from a basket delivered to the downtown office.

UPDATE: He's been cleared! Apparently the cookies weren't laced with anything after all. JamesK found the followup and posted it in comments. I'm adding it here.

WISTV-10 has the story via AP:

LAKE WORTH, Texas (AP) - A Texas teen suspected of delivering drug-laced cookies to a dozen police stations has been released from jail.

Tests showed no drugs in the goodies taken to two police departments. Christian Phillips actually delivered the treats to about a dozen police stations, but only two had any of the cookies left over to be tested for drugs.

Phillips was arrested at a Fort Worth suburb when officers smelled marijuana in the basket of treats. Phillips had told detectives his friend may have been smoking pot while he was baking, and he denied contaminating the goodies or trying to harm anyone.

He was delivering the cookies as part of his community service requirement after being charged last year with assault of a public servant.

Psytrance Animation: Dr. Spook

So some people have been asking me what this whole psytrance thing is about. I try to tell them it's like the Matrix without the cheesy plot, but here's some music and video from Dr. Spook to get the message across. Dr. Spook also happens to be playing at the Infected Mushroom event in SF July 18th. Drop somefin' and go get your trance on.

That must be some really primo stuff.

Last year we had this piece which explained some of the complicated mathematics that go into determining the street value of those massive drug busts we here at dosenation keep on keeping you informed of.

But smaller agencies can't afford the resources to go through all that math. So what do they do? Well, it sure seems like sometimes they just make up a number. A really high one.

Ever wonder how often the arresting officer samples the busted product? Because really that seems the best explanation for why an Ohio police department would claim that their 100 pound pot bust had a street value of 5 million dollars. That comes out to just a touch over $700 if anyone wants to go in on a quarter.

Blake Fielder-Civil caught freebasing heroin in the joint

I know some of you are sick of the whole Amy Winehouse saga, but the headlines just keep getting better and better.

A supposedly clean Blake Fielder-Civil was caught smoking heroin in his prison cell hours before wife Amy Winehouse begged for his release.

The Sun (UK) obtained pics showing him heating the drug on foil before inhaling fumes through a tube - known as “chasing the dragon.”

The skinny, pale drug addict, who had claimed to be off the horse, is also seen squatting on his cell toilet as he prepares his stash.

Photos available online everywhere.

In other news, a report in the current issue of Rolling Stone captures an evening with Amy Winehouse, complete with crack smoking, scab picking, and the mention of a brief glimpse of a cam-phone photo of Amy with a large cock in her mouth, a memento from Blake to keep her from getting lonely while he's in jail (no kidding).

Simpsons Wiggum Trippin

Remember that Simpsons episode where Homer eats the chili made with the merciless peppers of Quetzlzacatenango (grown by inmates of a Guatemalan insane asylum) and then goes on a psychedelic spirit quest with a coyote that sounds like Johnny Cash? Well some of you may be wondering what happened to the chili after Homer took off screaming? Did anyone else eat it?

In what can only be called a sequel to that episode, "The Simpsons Summer Shindig #2" from Bongo Comics brings us "Chili Chili Bang Bang", the adventures of a dosed Chief Wiggum as he's sent on a spirit quest by Wiggle Puppy to save the donuts of Springfield from Big Crime. This issue is a classic for Simpson's completists who need to see every psychedelic episode for themselves.

We Win!!!!

Well, it's been a long hard race folks - but the results are officially in, just tallied by our boys down at the World Health Organization. Once again, we kick ass at everything, including taking drugs. Give a high five to any hard working consumer of marijuana and cocaine you know, those paychecks every two weeks have helped make America number one again!!!

The numbers are startling. In the United States, 42.4 percent admitted having used marijuana. The only other nation that came close was New Zealand, another bastion of get-tough policies, at 41.9 percent. No one else was even close. The results for cocaine use were similar, with the United States leading the world by a large margin.

Taking shrooms has long-term benefits

Making the rounds today on the AP is a story about the amazing new study that shows magic mushrooms may actually be good for you:

Scientists reported Tuesday that when they surveyed volunteers 14 months after they took [psilocybin], most said they were still feeling and behaving better because of the experience.

Two-thirds of them also said the drug had produced one of the five most spiritually significant experiences they'd ever had.

The study was done by Roland Griffiths of Johns Hopkins, and the news wires are going to be flush with anecdotes of people claiming that taking magic mushrooms is one of the most wonderful things they've ever done. This is science people. If you don't catch this headline in the mainstream you probably aren't looking.
