Last year we had
this piece which explained some of the complicated mathematics that go into determining the street value of those massive drug busts we here at dosenation keep on keeping you informed of.
But smaller agencies can't afford the resources to go through all that math. So what do they do? Well, it sure seems like sometimes they just make up a number. A really high one.
Ever wonder how often the arresting officer samples the busted product? Because really that seems the best explanation for why an Ohio police department would claim that their 100 pound pot bust had a street value of 5 million dollars. That comes out to just a touch over $700 if anyone wants to go in on a quarter.
