Fake vintage Viagra ad

Via Gawker, we learn of the recent Worth1000 "fake vintage ad" competition, which provided this awesome "fake vintage Viagra ad." Ah, life was beautiful, back in the olden days before the world realized that those pernicious blue pills were DESTROYING LIVES.

History Channel presents 'A Psychedelic Odyssey'

Anyone planning on watching this? If so, please turn in a review for the rest of the class.

From Amazon jungles to the American Plains, British mental wards, Swiss labs, New York mansions and Grateful Dead shows, the history of hallucinogenic drugs is as fantastic as the visions the drugs produce. Wade Davis, is a modern-day anthropologist, author ("The Serpent and the Rainbow") and protege of one of psychedelia's most intrepid forefathers -- Richard Evans Schultes. Davis traces Schultes' life's work as one of the greatest botanist-explorers of the 20th century and reveals an illustrated history of the world's most mind-altering plants and substances in: PEYOTE TO LSD: A PSYCHEDELIC ODYSSEY, premiering Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The History ChannelĀ®.

This leads to a question that I've been curious about for a while now: when did psychedelic use truly jump the shark? Discuss.

Nicorette as tool of seduction

I don't know anything about the provenance of this web comic, so if it seems familiar, speak up. But it sure does offer a delightful option for seducing a potential partner!

The rit isn't just for the rats

Well, it should come as a surprise to those who have been living on Mars, with their eyes shut and their fingers in their ears, that many people from all walks of life use drugs to gain an edge at their respective practices.

To the rest, it comes as a surprise that only 20 percent of scientists admit to using "performance-enhancing prescription drugs for non-medical reasons." The article mentions Ritalin and Modafinil as the usual means, but it also mentions that some were "fans of beta blockers".

I did a little research and no, there wasn't a lone respondent who admitted to using Ketamine, LSD, or sensory deprivation, but we'll just have to assume that if he were with us today he would have been more than happy to do so.

Pete Doherty goes to jail

You didn't think he could make a mockery of the British judicial system forever, did you?

Pete Doherty has been sentenced to 14 weeks in jail.

The Babyshambles frontman was sent down at West London Magistrates Court yesterday (08.04.08) after flouting terms of his suspended sentence, which included missing rehab.

The singer's lawyer Sean Curran said: "Pete obviously didn't want to go to prison but he was philosophical. He's not an angel. He accepts the order of the court. He'll be back."

Doherty, the ex-lover of supermodel Kate Moss, had been ordered to take regular drug tests as part of a four-month sentence, which had been suspended for two years, after he admitted possession of crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and cannabis.

Well, it's only fourteen weeks. Doherty has had blackouts that lasted longer than that, I'm sure.

Xenu smokes Tom Cruise Purple

I don't know what this trend of naming bud after celebrities is all about, but I'm not sure I would smoke anything with the name "Tom Cruise" on it, would you?

Have you ever heard of Tom Cruise purple? According to a report from the New York Daily News that is a strain of marijuana that is grown and marketed as medical marijuana with the Cruise name and photo in Northern California shops and the report claims that it has the husband of the fabulous Katie Holmes smoking mad.

Apparently those that use weed for medicinal purposes can purchase it bottled up in vials with a photo of Tom Cruise on the side of the bottle on some sort of a label and the picture shows him laughing hysterically.

Now if you could get me some "Sticky Snoop Dogg" or "Bob Marley Blue Mountain" or "Dre Chronic" or even some "Jack Johnson Kona Cryp" then I'd be down, but Tom Cruise Purple? Well, maybe just one hit...

Marijuana toxicity in young rats

A reasonably respectable German study shows that:

"There is strong evidence that THC, the main psychoactive component of marijuana, crosses the placenta, that maternal marijuana abuse results in intrauterine growth retardation and that infants exposed to marijuana exhibit a temporary syndrome that includes lethargy and decreased muscle tone. Fetal exposure to THC can also result in attention deficits, learning disabilities and behavioral problems. "

Which probably will come as no surprise - either on a common sense level, or considering that another study found that endocannabinoids are significant in brain development.

The Monteagle Mountain Stone mix (mix 1 of 2)

[80-minute CD-sized mixes!!]

An all-psychedelic-rock nu-skool / ole-skool mix with just a hint of electronica here and there!

Created in July, 2002 by Waldemar (as DJ Lp3)

Dedicated to my most amazing father, Dr. Lanny Prichard, M.D. When I think of my father and his side of the family, I am always eventually led to thoughts of Monteagle, Tennessee where our family and friends reunited many times during the many summers of our lives. The beauty there is staggering. Good times with good people in beautiful surroundings...Is there anything better? :-D

Just imagine you're going into the wild...
