The Shpongletron Experience

I saw this show last night in Madison. It was a great show, although frankly I am a bit too old for this kind of thing anymore. But it warmed my heart to see kids smoking DMT on the street outside the theater. And it was a nice bonding experience with the friends I went with.

Tour is heading to the West coast, dates at the link. Seattle seems to be the last stop, May 8 at the Showbox.

This video mapping thing is cool. There was a posting here last year with a video of an art installation with a room with a bunch of boxes with video mapped onto them, which was quite cool. This concert uses basically the same technique, to good effect. I guess it's a "thing" now.

One thing I realized, being in a show full of high kids with clever, trippy visuals is that at this point, pretty much no matter what happens at a show full of high kids, the high kids are probably already so media-savvy that they'll just take it as more obvious eye candy. No matter what it is. The second coming of Jesus could burst forth from the clouds and people would probably go "whoah, cool show!" Sort of like how at the Station nightclub fire in 2003, many people assumed the fire was part of the special effects, which probably contributed to the huge body count of that fire (although the blatant fire code violations are obviously the main culprit).

I think 'trips'/aya/dmt - are being abused and being turned into a "circus" type drug where the user will say the next day "oh it was awesome!", Instead of the mind expanding and truth revealing tools that they really are. When someone says their trip was "just awesome" and don't hear the spiritual side or the feeling of their own soul/essence/conscience to its purest simplest awareness ... I feel sad :( and this makes me sad to hear about the "DEEMSTER TEENSTERS" ... like wtf, seriously - our future needs help and it's not getting help by being sheep

just saw the show down here in Eugene, Oregon....pretty awesome visuals no doubt...although i have to say, i missed all the amazingly trippy dancers that simon had during his last shpongle dj set tour that were lacking during this show....best part of the past few sphongle shows ive been to imo....
also, shponlge is far, far from kiddie trance...or trance of any kind for that matter. If anything id call shpongle ambient down tempo....anyway, awesome band, great show......

While I'm not at all in favor of people "smoking DMT like its crack" and abusing a very powerful and profound substance, don't confuse immature children trying to explore the rabbit hole with the music itself.

Shpongle is pretty damn far from "banal, saccharine kiddie trance," its a fusion of multiple genres within electronic music, synthesizing music from all over the world, all while inspired by psychedelic experience.

If you cant get down to Shpongle, then get out, or get your head out of your own "rabbit hole!"

It 'warmed your heart' to see kids smoking DMT on the street outside the venue? Guess I'm old-fashioned but sounds shallow and abusive to me. Last Shpongle show I attended, there was a group wearing shirts & hats that identified them as 'Deemster Teemsters'... being very loud about how elite & cool they were, aggressively trying to get others to smoke their 'DMT' through a straw off tin-foil. During the song 'Divine Moments of Truth', one of their 'leaders' started screaming a mantra: "I'm smokin' DMT like crack an' I don't care!" Then started convulsing like a half-squashed bug.
I call them DMT Zombies, and while there is a certain tragi-comic element present, mostly it just makes me sick.

gorgeous visuals. too bad the music is such banal saccharine kiddie trance. yet another no-wait-this-is-GOOD-trance sack of crap.

Pssst... I think it's "Shpongletron".

I saw them free on WAY too much dexadrine and potentiation with literally scores of other substances.
Basically show was like a particularly jarring trip because of strange guilt over nearly killing myself before getting there, while jumping around like an Insain maniac over the crowd.
Very spectacular video. I'm more of ust singles of hallucinogen, their albums never appealed to me yet.

it's SHPONGLE, not Shongle ;-)

I am seeing the The Shongletron Experience - Ott - Hallucinogen back to back to back at Wakarusa this summer.... its going to be a intense psychedelic experience.. and it does seem like people are drawn to shiny blinking lights like moths, the music should be more of the focus imo.
