Positive San Pedro story on Fox News

In an article entitled "Health Benefits of Psychoactive Cactus Juice", from the network that gave you the Tea Party. By Chris Kilham, the Medicine Hunter.

Don Alejandro the shaman shakes a rattle stick, provoking a sensuous cascade of clicking sounds. He chants softly in the Peruvian night, invoking spirits to assist in healing and enlivening our small group. About 12 of us sit outside on the grass of my friend Sergio’s lawn. In the neighborhood roosters are crowing, and dogs bark next door for a time. Two blocks away, Pacific ocean surf is pounding the beach at Chorillos. Alejandro has a blanket spread out on the grass, festooned with crystals, holy statuary, swords, money, flowers, fruits, and an assortment of magical tools. This is his mesa, a sacred altar set up for ritual healing ceremonies.

After setting a mood for our gathering, don Alejandro picks up several bottles of clear, greenish liquid. The liquid inside the bottles glistens in the night. He hands full bottles to several of us, and advises us to drink. The beverage is San Pedro, Saint Peter’s cactus Tricocereus pachanoi. The name derives from the fact that in Christian mythology Saint Peter holds the keys to heaven, and in the shamanic traditions of the Peruvian Andes, San Pedro cactus is a key to heaven. This popular plant potion is rich in the psychoactive compound mescaline, and in about 40 minutes we will be journeying into the spirit world with don Alejandro as our guide.

@chop: Pure mescaline in any salt form has never caused me nausea. It's something else in the cactus, unless I have a cast iron stomach, but I've vomited on unrefined cactus.

Go to London, UK, and you can buy San Pedro and Peyote if you're really keen. Big warning to anyone who tries it though, you'll never need ipecac; mescaline disagrees with the human digestive tract quite severely.

It isn't any different of a sensation from any other hallucinogen though (gastro-intestinal symptoms aside) so it could be a pretty long and/or expensive trip to experience something that you could get in any cow-patty down the road...

@Sam hell: to keep his weight down.

fauxulon: What's the Ipacac for?

Hey word,
If the Fox News people ran the country, you'd be in jail for the rest of your life for having "tried every drug in the book." Liberal news barely exists in the US. Take some PolSci and history classes along with your Psych classes so you have at least the faintest clue what you are talking about.

fox news isnt so bad...glen beck is a retard and so is bill o' whatever the fuck his name is. but overall it's no different from cnn...except it tends to feature republicans and democrats at the same time, instead of liberal news that generally only shows liberals and talks shit about fox. hop off the fuckin bandwagon and give it a chance. im a psychology grad student and have tried every drug in the book...but ive turned my back on the democrat elitists...fuck them

The last few lines are the best part: "I had the experience of being cleansed, lighter in my body and mind, freed of subtle stress. As it turns out, these are typical and normal experiences resulting from consuming San Pedro cactus – a native Peruvian medicine that enlivens the body, mind and spirit. And while the ritual use of sacred plants such as San Pedro is still marginal in many parts of the world, in some other areas these agents are employed regularly to enhance life."

I've been waiting long for san pedro.... never have I experienced it this gives me hope that one day it will cross paths with me

It's not really that surprising. Glen Beck swears by a daily regimen of San Pedro, Four Loko, Ipacac, and Funyons.

I homegrown this weekend, after a 6 mo break. I must have it's so great and other positive things about 25 times in one peak hour.
