From the recent release "Native Blood," Viceverses is a downtempo hip-hop crew from Cleveland with an uplifting spiritual vibe. I gave their CD a listen and then listened to it again. What I heard was tight minimalist grooves overlaid with nonstop thought-provoking verbiage and simple under-hyped choruses. Viceverses is heavily influenced by the Native Tongues movement, reminiscent of De La Soul, Blackstar, and A Tribe Called Quest. I would also compare them to the postmodern hip-hop movement like Mr. Lif, and Lif's frequent collaborator Edan (Echo Park, Beauty and the Beat), who Viceverses are also fans of, which is how they found DoseNation.com. Here's an uplifting little cut called "Catharsis" to get your mind right for the day. I chose this track because it made me smile.
