Oliver Sacks gets amphetamines right

In a long and excellent Guardian profile of Oliver Sacks, we are treated to this tidbit:

He began to experiment with drugs, including LSD and amphetamines. "I would take a huge dose of amphetamine," he recently told the New Scientist, "400 tablets on the weekend – and basically have something like a nonstop orgasm for 48 hours."

OK then - sounds like a plan!

Thanks for drawing attention to his book"Musicophilia" it looks really exciting!

2g is a lot of pharma grade amph.! You can build a tolerance up to almost all drugs so you can take ridiculous doses, it is not something to be proud of.

oh well, they might have been 5 mg tablet of dextroamphetamine sulfate, which would be few fewer molecules than d-amp hydrochloride, and 400 tablets @ 5 mg/tablet would be just 2 grams. Someone who tolerated amphetamine very well could handle 2 grams in 48 hours. People used to eat d-amp tablets like they were candy.
