Iowa warns of dangers of fake marijuana

State officials plan to hit the airwaves to warn Iowans about the dangers of a legal yet potent substance while seeking a ban.
The substance, sold under the labels "Spice" and "K2", is a synthetic version of marijuana. It's billed as incense and its package warns against human consumption, but it has been linked to the recent death of a Indianola teen.
Gov. Chet Culver announced on Monday that he wants the public health department to start a public information campaign against the substance. It will likely include public service announcements on radio and TV.
Some lawmakers plan to pressure the shops that sell it and then ban the substance in the next legislative session.

While I'm bothered that our cognitive liberties are in serious jeopardy with all this banning talk, I do feel people need to wise the heck up. This is your body and YOU should be responsible for it. Are you serious? What stands out to me is the fact that they say k2 is "linked" to the death. It wasn't the cause. The kid wanted to get high and he did! If k2 didn't exist he still wouldve been high on something. Hey idiots! Do you know how many people are killed by drunk drivers? How about cigarettes? Yet our government who cares SO much about our wellbeing rakes in unprecidented amounts of money from the LEGAL barbituates? Cmon people. The point is that one should be responsible when doing anything and the hypocratic protesters (who drink and smoke themselves) need to stop pointing fingers. If the government was getting their cut it, would it be ok then? Remember prohibition?

Well I think if it says on the package "Not for human consumption" then, if it REALLY did lead to the kid's death, it's his own fault for being illiterate.

Another thing they haven't learned is that the best way to generate interest and use in a substance is a big PR campaign. I've been "involved" with S. divinorum for about 10 years (although I really don't do anything with it at this point, other than grow it), and each time it hit the news the Internet (when it started, USENET) was flooded with "Wow! How can I get some of this shit?????!"

Criminalising one drug frequently leads to untested, potentially more dangerous alternatives to be sought. Clearly they haven't already learnt this.
