Suspended for touching an Adderall pill

Rachael Greer said it happened on Feb. 23 during fifth period gym class at River Valley Middle School when a girl walked into the locker room with a bag of pills.

"She was talking to another girl and me about them and she put one in my hand and I was like, 'I don't want this,' so I put it back in the bag and I went to gym class," said Rachael.

The pills were the prescription ADHD drug, Adderall...

But just saying no didn't end the trouble for Rachael. During the next period, an assistant principal came and took Rachael out of class. It turned out the girl who originally had the pills and a few other students got caught. That's when the assistant principal gave Rachael a decision.

"We're suspending you for five days because it was in your hand," said Rachael...

According to Greater Clark County Schools district policy, even a touch equals drug possession and a one week suspension.

[Thanks DJ Velveteen!]

at donanamous-whether or not ADD is a learning disorder or a scheme cooked up to reap more profits, the overmedicating of our country's adolescent population is bullshit. ADD can always be remedied with things other than amphetamines.

WHY? becuase its really damn effective for the treatment of learning disorders.

Never meant to sound as critical as you apparently understood me either. We're both qualified linguists, I just had to raise my eyebrow and re-read it to be sure I had read what I thought you had written.

ummm... adhd IS over diagnosed AND parents are victims of govt propaganda...

I live in Oregon, where most people you meet can't spell a word with more than six letters properly. The only explicit repercussions I have are those of my head through any given Oregon wall. ;-)
And yes, the government subsidizes the pharmaceutical industry with their reactionary treatment of illegal drugs and their users. Not a new topic. Not the most effectual place to discuss it either.

Slay, your statement was so well constructed I not only got he point, but believe that your short yet precise way of summarizing a very important issue should be spread like fire to stimulate conversation about the subject.

@gkor-you are forgiven for being a hypocrite, but as far as conceptual maelstroms go..well i dont know that i need to say much more to prove a point. if i were you, id stop worrying about an anonymous internet posting and start thinking about the repercussions that many of your actions will have on future generations. if you understood my point, the post was a success. a good day to you sir or madam.

@slay: Forgive me if I sound like a hypocrite when I say this slay, as I've been known to do the same, but that statement was a maelstrom of concepts rather clumsily strewn together. I understood what you were trying to say, just decrease your level of stimulation, whether chemically induced or neurological in origin. Youch.

Are children over diagnosed, or are their parents victims of government propaganda campaigns designed to create capitalist-friendly stigmas on drugs like marijuana and mushrooms that inflate the profits of pharmaceutical companies? I assure you the latter is very much the case.

Why are giving kids amphetamines anyway? ADHD is over diagnosed...
