Truly wonderful speech. I have to agree though that ass-kissing of Obama, Pelosi and the Democrats is misguided and premature.

One thing at a time- you are apparently confusing the issue of the middle east and a debate about drug reform. One issue does not necessarily preclude another. Many human beings have complex and reasonable thoughts perhaps even contradictory about a variety of things at the same time. Furthermore we should take what we can possibly get - don't you think?

I am also tired of all the simplicity of thought when it comes to the middle east. We should be out-no doubt about it. But its not as simple as wanting to be out. It takes time and effort and thought and patience and then action. The point is- you might consider showing some support and muscle for those who are willing to enact policy change.

It didn't seem to me that he was shilling for obama. He was cautiously hoping and putting forth energy into a man with the potential more than any other in US history to make some needed and thoughtful changes in policy and direction. Thats worth some concerted effort for those who are serious about drug reform. Sure in the end it could be just lip service, we shouldn't be naive, but the possibility is within reach for sure.

"I am so glad that Barack Obama is our president. It's what I dreamed about all of my lifetime- to be happy and proud about some guy sitting in the White House. A man who I believe has the political vision and the courage and ability to articulate what the American people need these days, and what the world needs these days. I'm gonna give him a lot of benefits of doubt."

Support for Obama is support for the silencing of anti-war debate. Drug reform is a huge issue, but it comes nowhere close to the massively important issue of us getting out of the Middle East. Obama is commander in chief and a war-monger. Antagonizing more chaos in Afghanistan and Iraq completely overshadows any progress we make with drug reform. I mean I agree with most of what he says, but we can't let weed cause us to idolize Obama or attribute him with only bringing good to the world.
