Mayans insist 2012 isn't the end of the world

Apolinario Chile Pixtun is tired of being bombarded with frantic questions about the Mayan calendar supposedly "running out" on Dec. 21, 2012. After all, it's not the end of the world.

Or is it?

Definitely not, the Mayan Indian elder insists. "I came back from England last year and, man, they had me fed up with this stuff."

It can only get worse for him. Next month Hollywood's "2012" opens in cinemas, featuring earthquakes, meteor showers and a tsunami dumping an aircraft carrier on the White House.

At Cornell University, Ann Martin, who runs the "Curious? Ask an Astronomer" Web site, says people are scared.

"It's too bad that we're getting e-mails from fourth-graders who are saying that they're too young to die," Martin said. "We had a mother of two young children who was afraid she wouldn't live to see them grow up."

Chile Pixtun, a Guatemalan, says the doomsday theories spring from Western, not Mayan ideas...

Bernal suggests that apocalypse is "a very Western, Christian" concept projected onto the Maya, perhaps because Western myths are "exhausted."

Thanks Ben!

zab2012 - That 's got nothing to do with Salvia and just your own fears. (In other words if you hadn't known about the fear-mongering media's opinions, you wouldn't be experiencing those images at all.) Salvia is a disassociative drug, which means you will have intense out-of-body experiences; but they will all be related to the scope of your mind - and typically incompass your fears and doubts about the world. I am an experienced Salvia user myself and have had many Shamanistic experiences, none of which involved the end of the world. During my very first trip, however, I did see an inspiring image of the sacred tree (at which time I had no knowledge of), along with an elaborately long story much like the fables related to the sacred tree... so it is not at all unlikely that you could experience information that could be useful... but for the moment it is likely you're going into the trip already paranoid that the world is going to end, and so you experience the world ending (albeit 60 billion years too soon)...

Adam - That's really interesting, but where the hell did you pull Schizophrenics from this conversation? In the least, the Maya Shaman's often smoked Salvia Divinorum, so it sort of made sense to discuss it... If that's your area of research, that's cool, but man that was random! :D

according to the myan calander and the innaccuracies of the modern accepted callendar, Scholars say that the date of the myan callendar is actually off by about 9-10 years. Meaning - 2012 already happened in 1999. So no worries.

I don't agree with the article. Too many Mayanists (yes that's the name of scholars that study the Mayan culture), have pegged 2012 as a monumental period in human history. [link]

With a little luck, it will be the End of All Apocalyptic Nonsense the Final Day of the Calendar on Which is Writ All Harmonic Convergences, All Raptures, All Lousy Books by Dan Brown and Hoo-Has of Every Sort. But even this is unlikely.

Its weird because when I smoke Salvia I get a very dreadful foreboding sense that something irreversible will happen on 12/21/2012. It happens every single time.. feels like the entities from Salvia-space are really excited about it.

Still it doesn't mean it has to be a bad thing.

But if I did consider what cosmic link our minds had to the stars, I would presume we are actually not in control of our minds, just as we do not control the stars.

It doesn't help that the jerks who did the PR for "2012" had all these stupid "I.H.C" commercials on the television trying to scare people into visiting a fictional movie's website. When "Columbia Pictures" came up on the bottom of the screen, I was outraged. I'm sure that anyone like us who took that commercial seriously enough to visit a website won't be seeing some dumb Hollywood movie after being spiritually manipulated.
I think it's going to be the end of this perpetual bifurcation that defines our journey through linear time, and the manifestation of a permanent duality that we all have inside of us, on a level superior to the individual consciousness to which it is now confined.
Schizophrenics don't get cancer very easily unless they are medicated, when they return to the normal cancer rate of the local population. I think it's caused by smoking pregnant mothers, who are so (rightly) stigmatized that they won't admit they smoked after their kid is diagnosed as "insane."
They love to smoke cigarettes. It makes them feel like the rest of us. It doesn't cause cancer in them, though, until they take medecine that does that anyway.
Adult's don't contribute to evolution. That is why we are not allowed to reproduce until we stop developing. The people in control of the status quo don't want changes to manifest on this level. However children, and especially foetuses, are highly sensitive to the process of evolution. In the fetus the blastula evolves into its own environment (the mother) and after birth, we keep doing that. However when exposed to high levels of carcinogens, I believe the foetus becomes Schizophrenic after birth because nature is trying to cure cancer. So they don't tend to get cancer until they get rid of Schizophrenia. Cancer resistance is not just in their genes, it is one of their symptoms.
Plus, look at the duality we seek in our own lives. It lives within individuals, and we resolve it by pairing and mating and living as one - your "better half," you might say. However Schizophrenics are people who are just evolving at a faster rate because of their severe exposure to cancer while developing. Mother Nature is giving them the duality they will grow up to love; ignore the voices, they hate you. Like your wife would. Focus on them, they tell you you're wonderful and to trust them on this - like your wife, husband, or partner. They are evolving to accept this state of duality and in 2012 I think it will become the way of the world. It will be the first real change of its nature in our world since the last phase of their calendar. Which only maps the stars, suggesting a cosmic link to our minds that I don't even want to consider right now.
