Video: Salvia in the news

Since the Kenneth Rau Salvia deferred sentencing in April of this year, the mainstream news has been fairly quiet on the whole Salvia issue. But here we go again. Salvia makes the evening news on WTNH, the ABC affiliate in New Haven.

I sense an echo chamber on this one that will last well into summer.

All this video proves is that people are stupid. Not a single smart person in the whole video. Nothing was added to the discussion.

Hey, I am so glad someone mentioned set and setting. The thing that bugs me the most is that partiers, teenage and otherwise do not realize that they are bringing on the same oppressive reaction to this as happened to entheogen use in general in the 60's. But it isn't just the kid's fault. It's the parents who do not want to cop responsibilit for what their kids are doing because they are too busy working 2 or 3 jobs so that the can afford the 'American Dream', leaving Drug Education up to the schools and 'DARE' programs who really do not teach anything but oppression and fear. The thing about our plant helpers, is that they demand respect. They are MEDICINES. And if you cannot learn the correct use of a plant healer from an expert, you do not have any business using it. THIS is what should be taught. Sorry for the rant folks....

Salvia totally kicked my ass harder than acid or shrooms did. This might be a good argument for not doing it at parties or in front of your motherinlaw or at the dog groomers or any places like that.

"the students don't feel like they are doing anything wrong"
well i would hope not....

That clip really disappoints me. I have seen and heard of far to many instances of people smoking salvia at parties. Jesus christ, what happened to set and setting? I don't care if you want to look cool in front of your friends, or tell them about how you tripped balls and rolled on the ground. People can get hurt this way.

I'm not concerned by high schoolers using salvia, I'm concerned by them misusing it. Most do not even have the faintest idea of responsible use or respect for a plant teacher. Psychedelic safety? What's that? While some kids are smart enough to get a sitter, i have some doubts about how useful the sitter would be in a crisis situation.

I can hardly blame them for this either though, they have never been taught otherwise. The only way they know how to take drugs is how they have seen it done on fucking MTV.

Please dont misinterpret my anger as toward the students, i am both angry and disappointed that our society cannot even teach principles of responsible use. Psychedelics/Entheogens are not to be taken lightly. Should they be used? I think so. But not without knowing about them. If you dont respect these substances, you might end up learning respect the hard way, and i dont want to see that happen to anyone. :(
