SDSU drug frat sting nets 75 students

I know college kids think they can get away with anything, but San Diego State's Theta Chi chapter must have thought they were invincible. They were infiltrated and busted with a fully operational drug distribution ring on campus; group text messages advertising cocaine sales? May I suggest fewer bong hits and a tad more common sense?

Dozens of San Diego State University students were arrested after a sweeping drug investigation found that some fraternity members openly dealt drugs and one even sent a mass text message advertising cocaine, authorities said Tuesday.

Two kilograms of cocaine were seized, along with 350 Ecstasy pills, marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms, hash oil, methamphetamine, illicit prescription drugs, several guns and at least $60,000 in cash, authorities said.

Of the 96 people arrested, 75 were students.

Another gem buried in the lower paragraphs:

Those arrested included a student who was about to receive a criminal justice degree and another who was to receive a master's degree in homeland security.

They have master's degrees in homeland security? Wow. I can totally see the guys from my school's drug frat going into homeland security.

Is this for real? Why can't I ever meet any cool people like the 75 above in real life? None of the people I know can score such a wide assortment of party favors.

Actually that sounds like a ton of drugs off campus. Even in our ideal world of legal use, we praise legal production and distribution because it keeps some of these people from becoming real gangs and causing real problems. And they were dealing entirely to students, and had pretty much every high-demand drug, including almost all of the most addictive ones.
And I don't trust the intentions of ANYONE who successfully develops a course outline for homeland security.

I think the whole thing about offering a college course on homeland security could be to get impressionable young moderates to jump through a psychological hoop for a measly although valuable credit. The grads get a little but dumber, a little less education and are equally certified in the working world they are dependent upon as long as they get good grades at being paranoid, fundamentalist nanny-staters. Did you think you could really trust corporate academia?

I also read in the newspaper that one of the students actually asked the officers if thier arrest would affect their chances of becoming a federal law enforcement official.

Well done officers! Another group of troubled youth put to rest, except, they were mostly financing their education, and now they'll have federal records and be unemployable, and forced to live a life of crime. Smooth move indeed. I'm sure there won't be any drugs on campus now.
