Coffee: A cup a day keeps dementia away

No, honest. Straight from the BBC:

Coffee may cut the risk of dementia by blocking the damage cholesterol can inflict on the body, research suggests.

The drink has already been linked to a lower risk of Alzheimer's Disease, and a study by a US team for the Journal of Neuroinflammation may explain why.

A vital barrier between the brain and the main blood supply of rabbits fed a fat-rich diet was protected in those given a caffeine supplement.

UK experts said it was the "best evidence yet" of coffee's benefits.

...

"Caffeine appears to block several of the disruptive effects of cholesterol that make the blood-brain barrier leaky," said Dr Jonathan Geiger, who led the study.

Thanks Mike!

Nothing like a little perk-up in the a.m.

I like to mix a low dose cannabis buzz with a medium/high caffeine buzz, it's great for focused energy.

Coffee is the largest source of antioxidants for many people - those antioxidants could be up to all sorts of interesting things

If I don't have a coffee to get me into beta-wave mode, I feel like I've got senile dementia.....I can still do work / study, but forget being able to do social interaction as w/o caffeine I remain in theta dream-state, despite being physically up & about.

If that's the case, no one in Sydney - we are serious caffeine freaks here - will ever, *ever* get senile dementia. Which is good, because when you start showing the signs, Down Under, they feed you to the sharks...

That's great...but just for the record I think a lot of the cholesterol talk is bunk...There are studies showing that. However, most food producers don't care and still market off the 'low cholesterol' hype. Sigh.

NONETHELESS COFFEE IS THE SHIT!!!
