Afghanistan's new cannabis cash crop

I know this is an old story, the NYTimes covered it last August I think, but NPR has a multimedia slide-show of Afghan farmers turning cannabis into hashish. Fun and educational.

I can't wait for when Fair Trade hash etc goes on sale legally.

If they really wanted to help impoverished nations, legalising would be a natural step. There's a big market for the products, and many people in third-world countries would benefit in many ways.

It wouldn't matter that you could also grow-your-own, in the same way that fine wines from various regions do see their demand and sales diminished just because almost anyone anywhere can grow fruits and make wines.
