The I-Doser epidemic

At a time when drug scare stories are never more than a local affiliate news truck away, it's nice to see that the freaking out extends to I-Doser, which, as you may recall, is a set of CDs that supposedly stimulate drug-like effects. In this case, the Des Moines Register reports on how I-Doser is sweeping one dormitory by storm.

The product works by allowing customers to download an audio file that contains a strange mix of beats and whooshes that the company claims can create a high, similar to being on drugs or under the influence of alcohol.

Chris Peck, an Iowa State University freshman from Marion, said he estimated 100 people in his dormitory alone have tried it....

Late at night in his dorm room, Peck said he selected a track titled "Nitrous Oxide."

"I cleared my mind, sat back and relaxed and pretty much vegged out," he said. "The people around me said I was giggling and twitching a little. When I came to, I was really, really happy."

Compact discs from the company range from about $17 to $20, and individual audio tracks sport titles such as "Peyote," "Ecstasy," "Orgasm" and "LSD." The tracks cost between $3 and $4.50, three or four times the cost of standard music on iTunes.

Wotta racket! On the other hand, looking for peyote has never been easier thanks to peer to peer file sharing networks. Naturally some folks are concerned:

Jim Clayton, chairman of executive committee of the Stepping Up Project, a coalition in the University of Iowa and Iowa City/Coralville communities that works to reduce high-risk drinking, said even though I-Doser sounds like "bunk," he has some concerns.

"I do object that we have people who would go out into the world with a marketing plan that would try to glorify or sanctify the use of illegal or mind-altering substances," he said.

Whew, thank goodness someone in a position of responsibility has weighed in on the important topic of whether naming your binaural sound wave product after an illegal drug is a good idea or not. Honestly I was just about to order the whole set for my two-year-old cousin, but now I'll think twice, and just order it for my seven-year-old cousin. Thanks, Des Moines Register!

Regardless of whether or not you will get a high from I-Dosing,">[link] there is no question that if you want, you are able to change your mood. This is due to the truth that anything can alter the way we feel. One common example is how music can change our mood with each song. Sometimes noises in general change your mood, like when you hear non-stop loud sounds you can sometimes get annoyed. I do not know if I-dosing really gives you a high, or if it simply changes your state of being. Often all you have to do to get "high" is turn on your radio. You are a lot less likely to have to take out an installment loan for a radio.

In order to make this software work, it is best to lay down on a bed, or couch in a dark room, or not incredibly light anyway, then relax every limb, tendon, and muscle as much as you can, make sure you will not be disturbed for the next like 30 minutes or so, close your eyes, and play the track. For some people, it take them about serveral tries, give or take a few before they get it to work for them. Its all about patience, and belief. Oh, and only use headphones.. thats about it.

If you all like the program, I would suggest a site for you to check into: you can buy doses and get seven free ones from this site:

Well, I would like to clear some thing up on the I-Doser program. I ,like most people did, downloaded the program for free. Anyways, thats besides the point.

I-doser does work, but as they say on the website, works on some people more than others, and some not at all! They say it works on people who are more "In-tune" with music and people who believe in meditation.

Now then, I myself am "In-Tune" with music. I've done... things... Before. Comparing the things to the doses is quite difficult. Honestly, even if you have done, say Crack, and do the crack dose, it would be completely new. Yes, it does make you feel like your on the drug vaguely, but you have a totally wacked out sense of reality.

It's like nothing I have ever experienced. Honestly, I reccomend you get this program, but make sure you try it out before you buy.

Here's a link to fix that, I think!

Thanks a lot for your help. However, I'm still having a technical problem. When I try to open the main program file, a message appears: "Component COMDLG32.OCX or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid". Do you have an idea what is wrong?

I wish it were possible to check it out for free. I'm surely curious - my favorite music is already quite "far out", I love psychedelic rock, still it doesn't get me high, I'm too "resistant" - and I can't just try out a single track because I don't have an online credit card.
Anyone know a source? ;)

I couldn't resist.

Having read on your blog about this, I needed to prove to myself that it was complete hogwash.

I just smoked some DMT last week. I've smoked it quite a bit, so I am quite familiar with it's effects. I figured this would be a good one to test... That and marijuana, something easily verifiable.

Now - I must admit, I am a bad man. I stole this software and the corresponding files...And boy, am I glad I did. I would equate the experience to getting some ground up mothballs in a little bindle after being told I was purchasing DMT, or maybe a bag of oregano instead of marijuana...

The DMT file did nothing. At all. Aside from annoy the hell out of my ears. The marijuana one did, I admit, make me feel a little different, but not high. Not even close.

This software is simply the digital equivalent of head-shop "herbal smoking blends" that promise to BLAST YOU OFF into the stratosphere.

Bah. Waste of time.

(Praise Dobbs!)
