In a stunning show of popular awareness, one of the largest corporate PR flak agencies in the world has launched a campaign against teen DXM abuse. From the recent AP release:
Manufacturers of over-the-counter cough medicines say abuse of their products by teenagers is a more serious problem than many parents realize.
The AP story also cites the well known "hallucinogenic effect" and "vomiting" effects of high-dose DXM abuse, also mentioning the "rapid heartbeat" but not quite going into the "will kill you" category that some bolder media reports jump to.
Who do we have to thank for this new DXM awareness campaign?
The Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America says abuse of over-the-counter drugs is recognized as a youth problem.
That group and the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, which represents manufacturers, have launched a campaign to create awareness of the problem, with a Web site and public service announcements.
