Cash's dad, Michael Hyde, says the drug helped Cash with his battle. "I believe that, you know, Cash's with us for a lot of reasons, one of them I would have to say is the power of prayer, one he's a walking miracle and the other one is he is a patient of medical cannabis, which has I think greatly benefited his battle," said Hyde.Via KBZK and DailySmoker » more at: www.youtube.com

State Representative James Smith (R- Sandia Park) has introduced a bill that would repeal the entire program, if passed. Rep. Smith, who is also a teacher, told KOB Eyewitness News 4 the program is sending the wrong message to children. “I’m compassionate about our most vulnerable citizens, our students. I believe it’s a disservice to our kids to tell them that something like marijuana is good for you. And I would like to see the law abolished,” Smith said. Smith said the program needs to be shut down because medical marijuana is still considered illegal on the federal level. “From what I understand there are other alternatives. I’m not a medical doctor, I don’t pretend to be, I’ve done some research. Again, I’ll refer to the DEA website, which says there are other options available.” Currently, New Mexico recognizes 15 conditions that can be treated with medical marijuana, including cancer, AIDS, and post-traumatic stress disorder.[Thanks Frank!] » more at: www.kob.com

Captain John Houston with the Narcotics/ Vice Division says, "In some cases they came right from manufactures of prescription pharmacies out in California and Colorado, right from the company, or the label said that." Just this week, the CCPD says they made three drug busts involving marijuana from other states. They say they started seeing these packages with prescription labels last fall; that people drive or ship them here. The biggest bust this week, four pounds of medical marijuana worth some $90,000 on the streets of Corpus Christi because of it's high, prescription grade quality.[Thanks Chris!] » more at: www.kiiitv.com

Researchers at the Johns Hopkins University are seeking volunteers who have an active interest in exploring and developing their spiritual lives to participate in a scientific study of the combined effects of meditation, spiritual practice, and the entheogen psilocybin, a psychoactive substance found in mushrooms used as a sacrament in some cultures. The study will take place over 6 to 8 months during which volunteers will be encouraged to initiate or maintain daily meditation and spiritual awareness practices. Volunteers will also receive careful preparation and 2 or 3 sessions in which they will receive psilocybin in a comfortable, supportive setting. Structured guidance will be provided during the session and afterwards to facilitate integration of the experiences. The study complies with FDA regulations. Volunteers must be between the ages of 21 and 70, have no personal history of severe psychiatric illness, or recent history of alcoholism or drug abuse, have someone willing to pick them up and drive them home at the end of the two or three psilocybin sessions (around 5:00 PM).Contact info at the link below. » more at: www.bpru.org

Fred Tomaselli creates stunningly hyperdelic collages on wood panels consisting of medicinal plants, hallucinogenic drugs, prescription pills, scientific images, birds, flowers, trees, and people. He then paints on top of the collages and coats the whole thing in thick and glossy resin. Tomaselli says, "It is my ultimate aim to seduce and transport the viewer in to space of these pictures while simultaneously revealing the mechanics of that seduction." Science writer Heather Sparks (aka my sister-in-law) interviewed Tomaselli for Story Collider, a terrific podcast that each week "brings you a story about how science affected someone's life."Podcast audio below: » more at: storycollider.org
