Florida mulls Salvia ban

The nation's sunniest state has been mulling the criminalization of Salvia Divinorum, because, you know, "Won't somebody please think of the children?"
"As soon as we make one drug illegal, kids start looking around for other drugs they can buy legally. This is just the next one," said Florida state Rep. Mary Brandenburg, who has introduced a bill to make possession of salvia a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

As the prison industry continues its dizzying rise toward it's inevitable conclusion - where what's good for the prisons is good for America - it's nice to see that Florida's lawmakers are marching in lock-step toward the day when That Which Is Not Prohibited Is Mandatory. Sigh.

The longest I've EVER experienced the effects of Salvia was for about 8 minutes...that's it...and I have NEVER been more relaxed and at ease...WHAT IT THE BIG DEAL!? I can't believe after July...that's it! It's not fair....

It should be regulated like alcohol. To make it illegal is a sin.

Just another way for a drug dealer to get even richer....

it's funny. because it's legal, i've always thought it was not that big of deal and never really thought about trying it. now i'm wondering if i'm missing out. if idiots think it's bad, then there might be some substance to it.

Curiously, the State of Florida didn't seem to consider outlawing guns at any time after one of the many hundreds of its citizens were gunned down to their deaths.

I suppose someone'll have to invent a Yellow Submarine style of gun that shoots only flowers, then it'd be considered a danger to the children.

Apparently they are missing the irony of their statement, "As soon as we make one drug illegal, kids start looking around for other drugs they can buy legally." Making something illegal doesn't reduce the demand for it most of the time, just the consequences of getting caught. The War on Drugs is bullshit.

Possession, 5 years? please, what a bunch of jokers. "salvia's effects last for a shorter time, generally up to an hour." Another piece that can't get it's facts straight. What ever happened to investigative journalism, summarizing previous [wrong] AP news doesn't count.
