Back before the first season of the original
Doctor Who aired on the BBC, the producers had some pretty crazy ideas about what direction to take the show, including this one which appeared in 44-year-old production meeting notes:
"The metaphysical change which takes place over 500 years or so is a horrifying experience ... in which he relives some of the unendurable moments of his long life.
"It's as if he has had the LSD drug and instead of experiencing the kicks, he has the hell and dank horror which can be its effect."
Wait a minute... people are getting "kicks" out of LSD? I thought "hell and dank horror" was the whole
point.
