I know my vacation spot this year...

The New Zealand Herald is kind enough to bring us a story of a tropical paradise located in the Autonomous Region of the Southern Atlantic:
People here don't have to work. Every week, sometimes every day, 35kg sacks of cocaine drift in from the sea. The economy of this entire town of 50,000 tranquil souls is addicted to cocaine.

Bluefields is a creation of the gods of geography. Located halfway between the cocaine labs of Colombia and the 300 million noses of the United States, Bluefields is ground zero for cocaine transportation. Nicaraguan waters are near Colombian territorial limits, making the area extremely popular with cocaine smugglers using very small, very fast fishing boats.

If the news of 2008 keeps up at this rate, we're in for a hell of a year :)

I WANT TRAVEL TO USA

A friend of mine had visited this area and spent an uncomfortably afternoon being questioned by the "Navy". Upon sharing this article with him, he finally realized what was really going on. Don't for a minute think this is somewhere to go, the "police" are simply guys with machine guns, the "prisons" are cinder block hell holes, and as far as rights, well you don't get any. This occupied territory, lawless, militaristic, and a real good place to disappear off the face of the earth. If you got executed on site, you'd be damn lucky...

Of course he also mentions that twice a week you can catch a boat here that takes you directly to Paradise and he emphasized it's not one of those metaphysical ones, or the kind you get from la langosta blanca.

Am man, I just read the article. We totally need to field trip...

Nah. People are naturally proud of the quirks of where they come from. They local kids probably run "white lobster" hunts along the beach for the tourists.

hmm, but after the article I am sure people are flocking to this area and most likely greeted with resentment by the locals.
