5-MeO-DALT traffic death stokes UK legal high backlash

5-MeO-DALT
A family has warned of the "disastrous consequences" of legal highs after their son walked in front of a lorry on a motorway after taking a drug bought over the internet.

Their stark message comes just weeks after Cambridge MP Julian Huppert demanded that the Government changes its drugs policy to respond to the new challenge of legal highs.

Alex Howse, 26, is believed to have been hallucinating after taking a large dose of 5-MeO-DALT, which was sold as a plant food, an inquest heard...

Mr Howse, of Green End Road, Sawtry, was grinning when he continued to walk in front of the articulated lorry as the driver swerved to avoid him.

He suffered a fractured skull, although the lorry was only travelling at between 15 and 19 miles an hour when it hit him...

Coroner Dr Sam Bass said: "It is a tragedy when anybody who takes drugs dies because of it, especially when it is a substance easily purchased from the internet and purchased legally in this case."

He recorded a verdict that Mr Howse had died of his injuries after being hit by a lorry while under the influence of 5-MeO-DALT.

[Thanks Richard!]

I feel bad for parents, but not the for the kid who died. Honestly, people know the dangers for drunk driving, chronic smoking, and when they doe because of their use, do we go out and blame the ciggarettes or alcohol?? No we always blame the irresponsible person, so why is it different in case of "legas highs" ?

Just because they are legal highs, does not mean you can do them like candy bars and go out a for a nice walk? what the hell is wrong with these people? If you do not know how to deal with psychedellic drugs, than dopn't do them, why are you making freedom and choice of mature and msrt people like us difficult?

I am sorry parents, but you made one stupid fool of a son. I think your parenting should also be brought in consideration and your ethics and moral behavior should also be investigated.

@teleomorph: let's also add Sitter, Situation, Session, and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.

Something must be done.

The psychedelic community needs spokesmen.
People with enough charisma, who can speak facts without the condescending arrogance of the leaders from the 60's...

What the fuck, so alcohol's out, same with 'do not drive or operate heavy machinery' meds... god i hate white people logic

I completely agree with shufflelot,
except to add "dosage."
Drug politics represses education of the 3 most important things to be considered carefully: set, setting and dosage

People also wander in front of trucks when they're drunk. Sometimes they do it when they are stone cold sober, too.

Accidents happen.

I don't wanna be mean, but if your dumb enough to wonder out into public while tripping, let alone near any cars, it seems like the universe is telling you something...

Or the cold remedy section of the drug store.

Its not the drug that killed him, but a society that failed to provide him with the proper education needed when experimenting with psychedelics. I'm amazed that I still meet people who are curious about these things and still no nothing about the importance of set and setting.

It is always such a drag that dumbasses use these substances so stupidly, blame the fool not the drug.

Life is strange to say the least. Does anyone else see the irony in that Mr Howse of "Green End Road" died as a result of ingesting "5-MeO-DALT, which was sold as a plant food"
