Florida 'Bong Bill' passes

Hey stoners, if you're in need of a bong or pipe, you'd be wise to buy one while you can.

A bill passed Wednesday will make it illegal in Florida to sell the drug paraphernalia in most head shops.

The so-called "Bong Bill" passed by the Senate and then overwhelmingly passed 115-0 in the House now heads to Gov. Crist for final approval.

The bill prohibits the sale of the items by businesses that don't make at least 75 percent of their money from tobacco sales or make over 25 percent from sale of the prohibited items.

Violators could face up to a year in jail.

[Thanks Don!]

I have to agree with Nicko "115-0? Ok, this is officially the dumbest thing I've read about all month."

Our Senators and Congressmen/women for the most part can afford cocaine, what the hell do they care if they can't buy a bong.

And why are they wasting our tax dollars on this BS when we have thugs spilling oil near our coastlines, killing fish and wildlife?

Go after the real thugs...go after big business who put the welfare of living creatures last on their list and after their bottom line dollar!

The war on drugs has ruined my life, I am a non-violent drug offender, never hurt a fly in my life. It is amazing that a person can carry a loaded 357 magnum and thats ok, but get caught with a gram of dope and you can go to prison as I did. Just google drug laws in portugal and you will be amazed, all drugs have been decriminalized, if you get caught with dope the police, if they want, can take it and you go free and thats the way it should be here. Let the millions of people in prison, that dont belong there out, they need treatment not prison! also google L.E.A.P. (law enforcement against prohobition) you will see lots of cops, judges, and ex-dea that are against prohobition. the war on drugs ruins lives as much as the drugs do,its insanity!

Let's hope all the dinosaurs in Florida go extinct real soon.

I'm really surprised it passed unanimously considering the capricious percentage based stipulations. So, it's acceptable if you gross 75% from tobacco sales... except for all the time. A full audit must be performed before (or likely, during/after) a raid, and there are countless items and figures for the courts to distort based on ambiguity over what actually constitutes "paraphernalia." Suddenly a tobacco shop owner's proverbial scale can tip into the legal black because pipes designed specifically for tobacco and all but TOP brand rolling papers become de facto paraphernalia. Oh well, I predict the state will be under water before long anyhow.

Florida is still in the dark ages when it comes to this stuff. Medieval times indeed. While our state suffers the worst unemployment ever and viloent crime rates that are through the roof, this is what our all knowing all wise public officials choose to focus on.

In an era where most states are realizing that prohibition is stupid, it becomes obvious which ones are still dinosaurs.

Thank God the bill passed! With the War on Drugs officially lost, I was wondering what the next phalanx in our attack would be. Now I know: the "War on Glass and Plastic Tube-Shaped Things Which Could be Used to Smoke Something Illegal."

I know I'll sleep better tonight.

115-0? Ok, this is officially the dumbest thing I've read about all month.
